Patient & Visitors

We are committed to providing the best possible health care in an environment that treats you with dignity, sees you as an individual, and respects your privacy. We want to provide you with the support and information you need to be actively involved in your own care.

Baystate Health strives to offer patient-centered, culturally competent health care to the individuals in our communities.  Visit our Diversity & Inclusion site to learn more about how we embrace the diversity of our patients and visitors.

If you have a family member or close friend who is a terminally-ill patient at one of the hospitals in our health system or in hospice care at our Visiting Nurse Association and you need help paying travel costs to see your relative, Baystate has established a Special Travelers Fund that may be able to assist you.  Learn more about the Baystate Special Travelers Fund and how to apply.

Our staff is here for you

Baystate Health's medical staff includes physicians, clinicians, and related providers representing all modern medical specialties.

Our expanded treatment team also includes:

- Therapists - Social workers
- Laboratory technicians - Biomedical engineers
- Dieticians - Clergy
- Maintenance workers - Volunteers

Please remember that you, too, are an important member of the care team.  You know how you're feeling better than anyone else, so don't hesitate to ask questions and offer your input.

Our nursing team includes registered nurses and other support staff members.  Baystate has been recognized with Magnet™ Status by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, an honor awarded to less than three percent of hospitals in the nation.  Under the direction of a registered nurse, this team works with your physician to plan your care and monitor your progress.  Technical associates (nursing assistants) and student nurses from accredited schools also assist in providing you with the best care possible.

Baystate Medical Center is a teaching hospital

Baystate Medical Center is a teaching hospital serving as the Western Campus of Tufts University School of Medicine; our physicians also supervise resident physicians and medical students who provide you with extra care and attention not available at non-teaching hospitals.  Residents have earned a medical degree and are now training on the job, usually in a certain specialty.  Medical students may also perform some examinations or procedures.  They have not yet received their medical degrees and work under the direct supervision of a resident or attending physician.

Our goal is to exceed your expectations.  If you have any comments about the care or services you receive while at Baystate Health, please speak with your nurse or unit manager.
