The free surgical support groups are a forum where our patients can discuss their progress and successes as well as any problems or concerns they may have. Support group meeting speakers include post-surgical patients who are sharing their weight loss surgery experiences as well as health care professionals.  

The meetings provide valuable information for pre-operative bariatric patients while supporting those who have already experienced weight loss surgery. A family member and/or primary support person is welcome to attend support group meetings with our patients.  We ask that you please refrain from bringing young children to the meetings since it is often difficult for them to remain quiet for 2 hours. 

Bariatric patient support groups for the Weight Loss Surgery Program meet regularly and the meetings are held in Springfield at Baystate Medical Center and in Greenfield at Baystate Franklin Medical Center.  To best meet your personal, work and transportation limitations, each month we offer a morning meeting, an afternoon meeting and an evening meeting as well as a morning meeting conducted in Spanish.

The support groups consist of patients who:

• Are considering bariatric surgery
• Are waiting to have bariatric surgery
• Have already had bariatric surgery.
