Aquatics Therapy Program

What We Treat:

The Aquatics Therapy Program (offered jointly with Baystate Franklin Medical Center at the Greenfield YMCA) is an effective treatment for patients of all ages experiencing:

  • Post-operative extremity and spinal conditions
  • Arthritis
  • Chronic pain
  • Low back syndrome
  • Sports injuries
  • General orthopedic rehabilitation.

In many instances, aquatic therapy has been known to reduce recovery time. Aquatic therapy can improve:

  • Cardiovascular endurance
  • Muscle relaxation
  • Coordination
  • Gait
  • Mobility
  • Circulatory efficiency.

It also leads to:

  • Better stability
  • Balance
  • Postural alignment
  • Joint flexibility and range of motion
  • Muscle strength.

Sessions take place Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Greenfield YMCA, 451 Main Street. Therapists certified in water safety work with primary care and specialty physicians to develop and implement an aquatic therapy program. The program, which is only offered in Greenfield, consists of:

  • Warm-up activities
  • Walking
  • Stretching
  • Light swimming
  • Individual therapy
  • Aquatic aerobics.
