NEW MAMMOGRAPHY GUIDELINES
Dr. Grace Makari-Judson, Medical Director of the Baystate Regional Cancer Program's Comprehensive Breast Center has issued a statement regarding the new mammography screening guidelines suggested by the United States Preventive Task Force Service. Part of that statement reads:
"The Comprehensive Breast Center does not accept these recommendations and continues to follow guidelines as put forth by the American Cancer Society and others.
We recommend:
Yearly screening mammography starting at age 40 with no upper age limit.
Clinical Breast Exam to be performed yearly starting at age 30
Breast Self Exam encouraged. Women should be taught signs and symptoms of cancer."

The mission of the CBC is to promote strategies for screening and prevention, to coordinate care for women with breast cancer, to advance knowledge in diseases of the breast and to contribute to wellness in women who have had a diagnosis of breast cancer.”
