DONATING BLOOD

 TRUTHS ABOUT
DONATING BLOOD

  • I'm afraid the needle will hurt.

It doesn't hurt - just a slight sting when the needle goes in.

  • I'm afraid I'll get AIDS or Hepatitis.

You can't get AIDS or Hepatitis from giving blood.

  • I'm not in good enough health.

Most non-infectious health conditions and prescription drugs still allow you to donate blood.

  • I don't have time.

Most donors are in and out in less than an hour, including the private interview, maing the blood donation (10 minutes), and a short rest and snack.

  • Loss of blood will make me weak.
  • I may faint.
  • The sight of blood makes me sick.

The Blood Donor Center can tell you how to fix minor problems that can temporarily keep you from donating.
