A Service of Baystate Medical Center
Baystate Medical Center's Neuropsychology Services provides neuropsychological and psychological evaluations and consultations for an exceptionally diverse clientele. Referrals are received from medical and mental health professionals throughout the entire region, as well as from other divisions of Baystate Medical Center. Assessments range from complete neuropsychological evaluations to the very brief bedside assessments of those with acute illnesses or injuries. Patients range in age from the age of six to frail aged adults.
The Memory Disorders Program
The Memory Disorders Program at Baystate Medical Center is the only program of its kind in the region, providing a place for elders experiencing memory problems or dementia to come for a complete evaluation. The Memory Disorders Program team consists of two psychiatrists, three neuropsychologists, a neurologist and a clinical nurse specialist who provide complete diagnostic, treatment and referral services for elders with memory loss.
The Memory Disorders team coordinates the evaluation from start to finish, identifying caregiver needs, making referrals to community services as needed and following the family and loved one if the disease is progressive. Early diagnosis increases the chances of successfully treating conditions that are reversible causes of dementia. There are practical advantages as well. The sooner the patient and family know, the more time there is to make future living arrangements, handle financial and legal matters and establish a support network.
Patients are also offered the opportunity to participate in clinical drug trials when they are conducted through the program. Referrals to the Memory Disorders Program may come from a variety of individuals, including the patient, patient’s family, or a health care provider. Baystate Medical Center accepts most insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid.
The Memory Disorders Program is located in Baystate Medical Center’s 3300 Main Street building in Springfield. For more information, please call 413-794-5555.
