What to do if you, or someone you cared for, were having signs and symptoms of a heart attack?
Call 911
Specially trained emergency medical professionals would arrive. They would perform a quick, focused physical assessment, attach a cardiac monitor, start an IV, administer medications and transport you to the nearest hospital's emergency department.
Paramedics at BH Ambulance have attended a training program on pre-hospital 12-Lead ECG for Acute Coronary Syndromes. Field medics are now acquiring 12-Lead ECGs before the patient reaches the emergency department. They have the ability to fax the results of the ECG to the emergency department physicians to review prior to the patient's arrival. This rapid communication and treatment saves lives.
Car Seat Safety Inspection
The Western Massachusetts Chapter of the National Safe Kids Coalition® in collaboration with Baystate Health Ambulance, co-sponsor several car seat safety checks during the year.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, more than 80% of car seats and about 40% of booster seats are used incorrectly. Each inspection and training will take about a half-hour; parents should bring their child and car seat to the appointment. Technicians will initially observe how parents install the seat. They will then remove the seat, inspect it, suggest corrections if necessary, re-install the seat, fit the child to it, and finally observe parents re-installing the seat themselves and buckling the child into it. Technicians will also notify parents if the seat is broken, too old to be effective, inappropriate for the car, or has been recalled.
