Observerships (Job Shadowing) are unpaid observation opportunities provided by Baystate Health to help individuals learn about healthcare career options. Participants have the opportunity to experience the workplace setting as well as the duties performed by the healthcare professional they are observing. The experience does not fulfill any clinical or internship requirements nor does it provide any hands-on experience.
Observers must contact and make arrangements directly with a healthcare provider (approval of the request is at the discretion of the office or department manager(s), with consideration of the unit’s staffing resources, the nature of the patient population and the procedures performed).
Once you have found a healthcare professional that has agreed to let you observe them, please contact Academic Affairs, 413-794-4466, to begin the onboarding process which must be completed prior to your anticipated start date. High school students, please contact the Baystate/Springfield Educational Partnership (BSEP)at 413-794-1671.
Internships/clinical rotations are only available for college students enrolled in programs affiliated with Baystate Health. These arrangements must be approved through Academic Affairs at 413-794-4466.
Volunteering is a hands-on experience with a minimum six-month commitment that includes helping our patients, families, and other visitors, as well as providing clerical support for some departments. Please visit Volunteering for more information. All volunteers are prescreened through interviews with the Manager of Volunteer Services.
