Meet Some of Our Volunteers

Dave Chichester

What I really like is the opportunity to connect personally with the  patient to offer a warm blanket, a sympathetic ear or just a reassuring smile.  When I leave the shift, I feel as though I have made a difference in someone else’s life.  The rewards are immeasurable.

There are so many volunteer opportunities at BFMC.  I always feel such a sense of accomplishment when I leave the hospital.  I enjoy my time and feel valued.

As a Mom and a lab employee, I’ve seen how important the comfort wagon is to kids who are coming in for blood work.  Kids often are afraid, and when they learn that they can pick out a toy from the wagon they are more focused on the toy than on what is being done.  The Comfort Wagon makes life easier for the children, their parents and the staff.

Marge James, RN

I love keeping my nursing skills useful while meeting new people.  As a volunteer, I do free blood pressures for the public every Thursday morning.  I loved nursing and I feel this is so beneficial.

I love working with patients.  It is so rewarding to be a part of a caring professional team here at BFMC that helps people negotiate stressful times in their lives.

I know it is so important for volunteers to do accurate filing and clerical work for the hospital, and I certainly see all the huge amounts of paperwork the staff has to process.

Susan:  I enjoy the people who work here – both the volunteers and staff.  As a BFA volunteer, you meet so many wonderful people, people who really care about both Baystate Franklin and the community it serves.

Nancy: As a BFA volunteer, I feel valued and appreciated for what I do.  At the same time, I feel a great sense of satisfaction giving back to the hospital that gives so much to all of us.
