Home for the Holiday

November 27, 2013

After a morning car crash Tuesday, a local woman ended up in the care of our trauma and emergency medical staff. Her injuries weren’t serious, but it seemed as though her mishap would cause her to miss her flight to her hometown to join her family for Thanksgiving.

That’s when an extraordinary team of caregivers stepped up to make sure our patient got home for the holiday. In addition to treating her injuries, her trauma surgeon called the airline to make sure she got on her flight. Our trauma team, trauma residents and Emergency Department staff attended to all her needs so she could get to the airport. Case management and social services expedited her discharge—and even helped arrange for a ride to the airport. And the Massachusetts State Police returned to the scene of the accident to retrieve her belongings.

As of this morning, our patient is safely home and enjoying her holiday with family. Today and every day, we’re thankful for the amazing staff who go above and beyond to care for our wonderful community. Happy Thanksgiving.
