Ware, MA (May 20, 2013) Osteoarthritis is a common disease affecting as many as 33 million Americans, causing pain, stiffness and swelling in joints. It can reduce joint mobility and interfere with daily activities.

Baystate Mary Lane Hospital invites the community to join Dr. Joseph Lellman, surgeon, BMP Mary Lane Orthopedics, for a discussion about Osteoarthritis. The lecture will be held at the hospital on Monday, June 10 from 6:00 to 7:30 pm in the Main Conference Room located on the second floor of the hospital.

“Osteoarthritis commonly affects the hands, feet, spine, and large weight-bearing joints, such as the hips and knees,” said Dr. Lellman. “It is a form of arthritis that features the breakdown and eventual loss of the cartilage, a protein substance that serves as a "cushion" between the bones of the joints. Among the over 100 different types of arthritis conditions, osteoarthritis is the most common.”

Dr. Lellman, who sees patients in two locations, at Baystate Mary Lane Hospital in Ware and at 95 Sargent Street, Rt. 9 in Belchertown, will discuss the symptoms and treatment options for Osteoarthritis.

The lecture is sponsored by Baystate Health Senior Class, and light refreshments will be served. Registration is required by calling Baystate Health Link at 413-967-2488. For more information about Senior Class Loyalty Program visit
