Ware, MA (February 13, 2013) – “During the winter months, blood donations decrease due to the inclement weather and illness,” said Suzanne Stockley, recruiter of the Baystate Health blood donor program. “All blood types are needed to ensure a safe and adequate blood supply is always available.”
The community is invited to participate in a blood drive to be held Friday, March 1, from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm at Baystate Mary Lane Hospital on the Baystate Health Blood Donor Mobile. The bloodmobile will be parked in the hospital’s North (visitors) parking lot, located at 85 South Street in Ware.
Every eligible donor will receive a $10.00 gift card to either F.L. Roberts or Big Y supermarkets! To be eligible to donate, you must be at least 17 years old, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, be in general good health, and without a cold, sore throat, or fever. You may donate if you have had the flu vaccine or flu mist.
One hundred percent of all blood collected on the bloodmobile stays in our community for use in Baystate Health hospitals and facilities.
“Remember, there is no substitute for human blood,” said Stockley. “The only way we can provide this life-saving gift to our friends and family is through the generosity of volunteer blood donors like you!”
