NORTHAMPTON -- The Baystate Health Blood Donor Mobile will host a blood drive
on Tuesday, July 16 from 9 am – 3 pm, in the Daily Hampshire Gazette parking lot (115
Conz Street). All blood types are needed. Eligible blood donors will receive a patriotic themed
T-shirt and the chance to win a pair of Red Sox tickets!

“Blood donations decrease in the summer as donors are busy enjoying time off with
family and friends,” said Suzanne Stockley, blood donor recruiter, with the Baystate
Health blood donor program. “We need your help to ensure that a safe and adequate
blood supply is available all summer long. So score big this July by donating blood,
saving a life, and maybe winning a pair of Red Sox tickets!”
Stockley added, “One hundred percent of all blood collected on the blood mobile
stays in our community for use in Baystate Health hospitals and facilities. There is no
substitute for human blood.”
Blood donations take approximately one hour to complete, including the
interview, donation, and refreshments. To donate blood, you must be at least 17 years
old; weigh at least 110 pounds; have a photo ID; be in good health (no colds, sore throat;
no antibiotics within 48 hours); and not have donated blood within the past eight weeks.

Certain other medical or travel restrictions may apply. Stockley reminded donors,
“Be sure to drink plenty of fluids and eat well prior to your donation. For those of you
low in iron, include lots of leafy greens.”
Appointments and pre-registration are recommended; however, walk-ins are also
welcome. To make an appointment, contact Suzanne Stockley, 413-322-4044
(suzanne.stockley@baystatehealth.org).

Please indicate the approximate time you wish
to donate, your birth date, your phone number, and whether or not this will be your first
donation within Baystate Health. If you have questions about your health history,
medications, or your ability to donate, or would like to inquire about hosting a blood
drive at your business or civic organization, please contact Stockley.
