Please follow these guidelines to help us meet your needs:
- Arrange in advance to have a responsible adult accompany you into the building and then drive you home and remain with you during the first 24 hours after your surgery.
- You may not drive yourself or be left alone.
- If your driver cannot stay during your procedure, we will give him/her a beeper to notify him/her when your procedure is done.
- Please bathe or shower before coming for surgery.
- Remove all makeup
- After bathing, do not use:
- Lotions
- Oils
- Perfume/cologne
- Wear loose, easy to button, comfortable clothes that are roomy enough to accommodate a large bandage after surgery.
- Wear comfortable shoes, such as sneakers or loafers, not heels.
- Leave all valuables, including cash, at home.
- Remove all jewelry and body piercing and leave them at home.
- Bear in mind that Baystate Orthopedic Surgery Center is not responsible for lost or damaged property.
- We will ask you to sign a form giving your consent for your operation.
- If the patient is less than 18 years old, a parent or legal guardian must accompany the patient and sign this consent form.
- If you are a legal guardian, please bring the guardianship papers with you.
- Bring a picture identification card and all your insurance cards with you.
- Please arrive an hour and a half before your scheduled procedure, but no earlier than 6:30 a.m. Patients receiving local anesthesia should arrive one hour before scheduled surgery.
- A member of our anesthesiology team will speak with you about your anesthesia options.
- Your family member/visitor/driver may remain with you prior to the surgery, but will be asked to wait in the main lobby during your procedure. The surgeon will speak with him/her after your surgery.
