We offer medical care for pregnant and non-pregnant women with two types of practitioners:
Our residents are doctors who are completing training as obstetrician gynecologists (doctors for pregnant women and non-pregnant women of all ages). Wesson Women’s Clinic is part of the Western Campus of Tufts University School of Medicine, a nationally known teaching program. If your visit is with a resident, it may take longer than you expect. Be assured that this extra time is taken because your information is carefully reviewed by at least two doctors to determine the best options for your care. Our faculty physicians also supervise resident physicians and medical students who provide you with extra care and attention not available at non-teaching hospitals. Residents have earned a medical degree and are now training on the job, usually in a certain specialty.
Our nurse practitioners are registered nurses who have completed advanced degrees in health care. They provide routine gynecological care and routine and high-risk prenatal care. They offer a variety of health educational programs and services for teens and their special issues.
Our medical services include:
Care for teen girls/women
Well women care (including annual gynecologic exams, Pap tests)
Caring for yourself before pregnancy
Birth control and family planning
Prevention, diagnosis and management of sexually transmitted infections
HIV testing
Management of abnormal Pap tests
Diagnosis and management of abnormal bleeding, PMS, urinary incontinence, chronic pelvic pain and endometriosis
Menopausal health
A full range of advanced gynecologic surgical treatments
Routine prenatal care
High risk prenatal care – including twins, diabetes, and pregnancies with medical complications.
Vaginal birth after cesarean section.
These extra services make Wesson Women's Clinic a special place to get your care:
Our social worker provides counseling, emotional support and referrals for services or for longer-term counseling. She also coordinates with community programs, agencies, and other resources to provide support groups.
Medical nutritional therapy offering general dietary counseling, dietary counseling for medical conditions (such as diabetes or pregnancy related diabetes), breastfeeding information, and referrals to the WIC Program.
Our HIV counselor is available to discuss safer sex methods, sexually transmitted infections. She may also counsel about HIV risks, offer HIV testing, and provide counseling about recommended HIV testing for pregnant women.
Wesson Women’s Clinic offers translation services for most languages. Many of our staff are bilingual (primarily Spanish). With prior notice, an American Sign Language interpreter is also available.
The support staff of Wesson Women’s Clinic are also here to help guide you through your care. Our practice associates check patients in and out of the office, and schedule appointments. Medical assistants obtain basic information about your visit and help the practitioners during your exam. Nurses help coordinate medical appointments, administer medications, provide patient education and transmit important information to those involved in your care.
