In her role as chief medical officer, Dr. Gerda Maissel serves as the liaison between Baystate Franklin Medical Center’s administrative team and the medical staff. She is the leader responsible for medical staff relationships, recruitment, and medical staff office activities such as credentialing. She oversees hospital quality initiatives and provides senior physician leadership for hospital wide initiatives. Additionally she is the leader of Baystate Medical Practices in the Northern Region, which encompasses all of Franklin County and adjacent communities. She remains active in Baycare Health Partners, serving on several committees including vice president of the GSIPA.
Dr. Maissel is a physiatrist who began her career with Baystate Health in 1994 when she was recruited to be chief of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Baystate Medical Center. She has held numerous leadership roles since including medical director of Post Acute Care for Baystate Health, and President of the Baystate Medical Center medical staff.
Dr. Maissel earned her Medical Degree from the State University of New York (SUNY) Health Sciences Center at Syracuse. She then completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Crozer Chester Medical Center in Chester, PA, followed by a residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia.
