As the Chief Operating Officer of Baystate Mary Lane Hospital, Dr. Ahmed oversees day to day hospital and practice operations and helps to lead the senior leadership team for the Baystate Health Eastern region. He also serves as the Eastern Region’s Chief Medical Officer. Some of his main responsibilities include leadership for inpatient and outpatient practice operations, hospital medical staff oversight, provider recruitment, quality and patient satisfaction program oversight, leadership development, strategic planning, and financial stewardship.
Prior to his arrival at Baystate Mary Lane Hospital, Dr. Ahmed had served as the President of the Medical Staff, Chief of OB/GYN and a member of the Hospital Board of Directors at the Naval Hospital – Cherry Point in North Carolina.
Dr. Ahmed joined Baystate Medical Practices (BMP) in 2003 as a practicing physician, Medical Director of Baystate Medical Practices – Mary Lane OB/GYN and the Chief of OB/GYN for Baystate Mary Lane Hospital. In 2006, he was promoted to the position of Regional Medical Director for the Baystate Affiliated Physician Organization (BAPO) while assuming the Medical Director role for BMP – Quabbin Adult Medicine/Rapid Care Clinic.
Dr. Ahmed is also a member of the BMP Board of Directors, and he has served as the Vice President of the BMLH Medical Staff. During Dr. Ahmed’s tenure, the BMLH Women and Infants’ unit and the OB/GYN/Pediatric practices have earned multiple awards for outstanding quality, patient satisfaction and employee engagement.
Dr. Ahmed completed his BA/MD at Boston University and received his Doctorate of Medicine from Boston University School of Medicine. He completed his OB/GYN residency training through Tufts University at Baystate Medical Center. He is also a fellow of the American Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
