Anesthesiology Scholarly Activity

The Department of Anesthesiology has carried out research projects on a variety of topics. Recent investigations have covered topics including COX 2 inhibitors, NSAIDs, local anesthetics, and opioid analgesics in a variety of postoperative settings; these investigations have included both inpatients and outpatients.


In addition, the department has been involved in pain management investigations in patients undergoing major orthopedic surgery. The department has also been very active in investigating neuraxial analgesics in obstetrical patients in labor.


Recent publications have included airway management techniques in both adult as well as pediatric patients. Departmental members have also participated in multi-institutional investigations concerning the use of muscle relaxants in mechanically ventilated intensive care unit patients.
