Goals
This elective will provide the broadest possible exposure to comprehensive trauma care. Baystate Medical Center is the Level 1 Trauma Center for Western Massachusetts and sees over 2000 trauma patients of all ages annually.
Objectives
The student will…
- engage in active participation with the Trauma Team in resuscitations and surgery of the trauma victim.
- gain exposure to emergency general surgery, wound care, and hyperbaric medicine.
- learn wound closure techniques.
- attend daily rounds in the ICU and floor care of the trauma patient along with weekly Trauma Clinics.
