Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Acting Internship

Location:   Baystate Medical Center, Medical Office Building, Suite 309, 759 Chestnut St., Springfield, MA

Goals

This elective offers the fourth year student the opportunity to be intimately involved in the treatment of outpatient and inpatient plastic surgical problems.  A wide variety of patients including pediatric cleft lip and palate, breast reconstructive, cosmetic surgery, trauma reconstructive, hand and microsurgery are seen.

Objectives

The student will…

  • function at the level of a surgical intern and have responsibilities in the plastic surgical clinic, private office and hospital settings.
  • perform preoperative and postoperative evaluations.
  • assist in surgical procedures.
  • improve upon and expand suturing techniques.
  • participate in available clinical research projects if so interested.
