The Baystate/Tufts Pediatric Endocrinology Fellowship Program is committed to providing a rich environment for learning clinical and academic endocrinology to its trainees.
As a fellow you will work closely with our pediatric endocrinologists, and additionally receive mentoring and supervision from our specialists in Obesity and Weight Management, Adolescent Medicine, Reproductive Endocrinology, Genetics and Adult Endocrinology. The fellow is exposed to a broad range of in the outpatient setting and the hospital, and in didactic sessions.
During the first year, and increasingly in the second year, the fellow learns the fundamentals of clinical and scientific investigation. The fellow chooses a scholarly mentor and conducts a scholarly project during the second and third years. This may be a clinical or basic science research project under the supervision of one of the researchers at Baystate and at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Ample time is committed to this endeavor with the goal of fostering interest and competence in independent investigation.
The division is involved in numerous specialty clinics in addition to the backbone of pediatric endocrine and diabetes care. There are monthly clinics in Long Term Cancer Care, Cystic Fibrosis Related Diabetes, Metabolic Bone Disease, and Multidisciplinary Type 2 Diabetes in which the Pediatric Endocrinologist, Pediatric Endocrinology Fellow and other sub specialists work together to provide superb care to children with chronic disease, cross fertilizing and learning from each other.
