Internal Medicine Residents Win Top Innovation Award at SGIM Regional Meeting

PGY3 residents Auras Atreya MD and Behdad Besharatian MD won the top award in the Innovation Presentation category at the 2014 Society of General Internal Medicine (SGIM) Regional Conference at Harvard Medical School. Their poster is titled “Android Application Based Educational Tool to Improve Cost-Conscious Care Among Internal Medicine Residents."

According to Dr. Tara Lagu, Department of Medicine academic hospitalist, the pair developed an app that lists the costs of all of the tests and services administered during a hospitalization. Dr. Thomas Higgins, Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs in the Department of Medicine, and Stefano Buccy, UMass Amherst student, were also on the project.

A total of 9 Baystate IM residents presented posters at SGIM. Dr. Thomas Chin, PGY 1 resident, gave an oral presentation titled, “An Unusual Case of a Patient with Drug Overdose and Brugada Pattern on Electrocardiogram Presenting as a Possible Acute Coronary Syndrome.”

Drs. Michael Rosenblum, Tara Lagu and Linda Canty were judges for the poster session.
