The Surgery Department at Baystate Medical Center, the regional campus of the UMass Chan Medical School, is proud to have a role in charting the future course of surgical education in the United States. Baystate Simulation Center and Goldberg Surgical Skills Lab presents a diverse range of clinical scenarios in the form of interactive simulations that emphasize team training and crisis management. Physical and virtual reality simulations provide a broad experience in surgical skills development.

Program-at-a-glance
Our general surgery residency program provides a complete training experience for new surgeons in an environment characterized by innovation, diversity, and abundant opportunities to excel.
Baystate offers a high volume of operative cases, as well as basic science and clinical research. The surgical simulation training experience is varied and intensive, and has been at the forefront of surgical education research.
In existence for more than 55 years, the general surgery residency program prides itself on education excellence with dedicated and distinguished teaching faculty members who have achieved national recognition as leaders for academic, accreditation and policy organizations. It has been our mission to launch highly successful careers for our graduates, spanning the gamut of additional training and practice (academic, non-academic, military) positions.
